That's right, it is not just kids who get to have all the fun! Whitby Yacht Club Sailing School offers a variety of different programs for adults and families alike to get out on the water in a format that is schedule friendly and accessible for all to enjoy. Whether it's getting out on one of our Shark 24's in Start Keelboat Sailing, Double-handing a RS Quest in our Date Night Dinghy course, or finding a new passion as a family in our Social Circle Sailing course, we have something for everyone!

Family Sailing
The Perfect Outdoor Activity for Friends and Family
This is for the family / friend group that strives to seek adventure where ever they go. One of our most popular courses, Family sailing is a 4 week long course that seeks to help families and friend groups out on the water to try something different and develop new passions. Over the course of 4 weeks, participants will be placed in boats of up to 4 people taken through the CANSail 1 & 2 Curriculum. This will include important lessons such as parts of the boat, setting the boat up for sailing, different points of sail, on water sailing maneuvers, capsizing, and much more!

Recreational Paddleboarding
When A Boat Just Won't Do
For those who want to enjoy the water on their own terms, this is the solution for you. Over the course of 4 weeks you will learn the basics of Paddleboarding and have ample time to practice as you enjoy those hot summer days in our protected harbour and scenic Whitby Waterfront. Absolutely no experience necessary, and we provide the paddles and Paddleboards!

Let's Try Sailing
A Taste of Sailing, Commitment Free
If you've never had the chance to feel the wind and waves gracefulling moving you forward and drawing you into a new way of enjoying life, this is your first step. This three hour course offers participants a tase of sailing in one of our Shark 24 sailboats where they will gain a basic understanding of general terminology while under sail, and have the opportunity to continue forward with the Start Keelboat Sailing course!

You know how the famous line goes, "Those who sail together, stay together". Another Fantastic course returning to WYC for 2022, Date Night Dinghy is the perfect option for the adventurous couples that like getting out there and trying new things! Over the course of 4 weeks (1 night per week), couples will cover all of the content within their CANSail 1 levels including lessons such as parts of the boat, setting the boat up for sailing, different points of sail, on water sailing maneuvers, capsizing, and much more! While there is a theory part to this course, the emphasis will be placed towards spending as much time on water as possible!

Fun in the Sun
Date Night Dinghy
For those who want to leave shore in command of their own vessel, WYC is happy to offer our new SINGLEHANDED Dinghy course. This course is created as an introduction to singlehanded sailing, and offers a detailed content break-down in a small class format featuring an instructor / sailor ration of 1:3. Sailors will learn a large variety of content necessary for safe sailing including boat parts, rigging and de-rigging boats, physics of sailing, sailing on your own, and will provide participants with a large amount of on-water time.

Becoming Your Own Captain
Singlehanded Sailing
The solution for those who want to get into keelboat sailing! This course is absolutely no experience necessary, as it takes participants through all of the basics of crewing on a keelboat and understanding how they work. Throughout either option 1 or option 2, participants will cover on land theory lessons and on water practical lessons focusing on a variety of different aspects including parts of a boat, physics of sailing, different roles in the boat, basic boat maintenance, safety while sailing, all while training to become proficient crew members on keelboats!

Option 1: 6 nights from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm

Option 2: one full weekend (Friday 5:30pm - 9pm, Saturday & Sunday 9am-5pm).
